Burn MP4 Videos to DVD

I want to burn an MP4 video from my laptop (Windows 7) onto a DVD that it watchable on an ordinary DVD player / TV.

Any recommendations for software to use?

Would obviously prefer a freebie but would consider paying a modest amount for something that is more user-friendly.

Thanks

  • What OS? Windows DVD Maker is part of Win 7 and does a better job than many of the commercial programs.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

    Windows DVD Maker

    Instructions here.
  • I use DVD Flick, it's free, reliable if a little bit slow.

Thanks all for taking the time to respond. Have had a look at these and all look good ...
    - Windows DVD Maker - doesn't support MP4
    - WINXDVD Author - alas refused to come up when I clicked the download button, almost as if pop-ups are being blocked but that doesn't appear to be the problem
    - Convertxtodvd - good but expensive
    - DVD Flick - it is fairly slow but I did successfully burn a DVD

The quality of the DVD is not bad, certainly more than watchable. However, the image doesn't seem that sharp. Is this just to be expected when burning an MP4 to DVD, given the compression/convertion involved?

I use convertxtodvd and have found that it usually is capable of handling video files others can't. When you say give up, do you mean it froze or did it give an error message of some kind?
