The more I think about this, taking on board the comments above, the more I think we should take the train from Bristol the day before ...

I have to admit, that was my first thought but the thread seemed to support your original thought, so I just chipped in :o

You should still get an "off peak" deal on your tickets though. If you leave Bristol after 10am on the day before your meeting; and then return to Bristol after 10am on the day of the meeting ....?

A quick look at Great Western Trains' website suggests that you could get a return for 2 adults at £36-£50. It would seem that kids under 5 go for free :j But then you need to add on the cost of accommodation.

If you can stomach going there and back in the same day, there seems to be a train leaving Bristol Parkway at 04:57 (!!!!) which would get you to Paddington at 06:24. You could have breakfast and then go on to the Embassy. And then leave on the 15:45 out of London. That would cost £110 (with the underground in addition).

But the start time is horrendous ... unless you make it an adventure for your 2 yo ...???
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

I suppose ideally stay in a hotel near Grosvenor Square that's walking / buggy distance as to avoid public transport. But good lord could they pick a more expensive part of London!!

Have you mentioned the date of your appointment anywhere ? The Covent Garden Travelodge may be a reasonable bet depending on availability - it'd be a bit of a trek by foot but it may work out cheaper than closer options, even factoring the price of a taxi ride (which i'd guess would be less than £10, and proably not much more expensive and more convenient than public transport)

I'm not quite clear where Baker Street comes into this - it's nowhere near Grosvenor Square.

Are you confusing it with Grosvenor Place? That is near Baker Street.

Which Embassy do you want? The US one in Grosvenor Square is fairly near Marble Arch, Bond Street, Green Park and Oxford Circus. A looong way from Baker Street.

Last time I parked at Slough Station it was very expensive on weekdays!

Another possibility is to stay in Windsor and take the train to Waterloo. :)

But I'll poke around the internet at Uxbridge, thanks everyone! :)
There's no car park at the Travelodge in Uxbridge if that's what you were looking at. You could try the one at Northolt - free car park and take the Central Line to Marble Arch.
