Hi,
I need more informed and technology aware folks to give me some guidance and clear up bit of confusion please!
I need to buy triple digital cordless phones for the house, which my elderly mum and dad will be using, hence they need to be simple, user friendly and reliable.
The following two have caught our attention, that have good feedback and can be bought from a nearby Argos, and I'm hoping for some input please:
Siemens Gigaset AS185 - £39.99

Panasonic KXTG2523EM - £49.99
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5527894/Trail/searchtext%3EPANASONIC+TRIPLE.htm
Both have got positive reviews, but the Siemens has got a lot more reviews overall.
Would you recommend one over the other to suit my parents, or either (make) perfectly ok?
Thank you

I have the panasonic, had them about 3 months now and they are great. Being hard of hearing I needed a loud ring and volume, it has both so i am happy. Hope that helps you xRIP TJ. Whatever model you get - make sure that it is a Panasonic !

We are in the Telecoms trade, whenever we instal DECT phones we always use Panasonic. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

+1 for Panasonic. They make the best consumer DECT phones.0

I have recently got some Philips DECT handsets and they are great for sound quality. My only criticism is the buttons are a bit fiddly so I sometimes press the wrong one (and I can type on an iphone!)
The battery lasts absolutely ages.0 -
I've had a few of varying makes, the only thing I can say is make sure you get recommendation on the sound. Some of them are quiet, even at full sound. It is probably a consideration with your parents.
My current brand is a BT branded set I got dirt cheap off ebay (quite an old set) but the volume on it is great (hard of hearing) and can even use the speaker phone too, as it's loud enough.
I have had Panasonic previously, and been happy with those too, but also Siemens.0 -
Another vote for Panasonic. I have had BT ones & Philips and the chargers stop working after about 18 months (despite changing to new rechargeable batteries). Think we have had our current Panasonic phones for well over 3 years (one change of battery).
Also have hearing problems (40% loss in one ear) but no issues with the phones, which work well with my hearing aid or without.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -

That.
We have had several sets of cordless dect phones now, and the Panasonics are by far the best.
They have good sound quality, good range, you can copy the contacts from one handset to the others (at least with the model we have), they take standard NIMH AAA batteries (so no bother to replace them) AND have smart charge circuits so you can leave them on their base units without worrying about cooking the batteries*.
You can (at least with the set we've got) have two handsets on the same call with no faffing about.
*A lot of cordless phones seem to never shut of the charge to the batteries, so you kill the batteries in fairly short order if you're not careful about taking them off the base unit once charged (a stupid thing as a smart charge circuit costs pennies)0
