Based on today, the best idea would be make sure everyone in the party
    can swim.

Don't know why you are apologising. Rhyl is a total dump.

I also recommend Anglesey or maybe Criccieth / Porthmadog.

The flooding was in West Wales so nowhere near Rhyl. In fact the area around Rhyl (Towyn/Kinmel Bay) did suffer severe flooding in 1990 so the sea defences have been built up since then.

But moving on to the point in hand I would agree with the other suggestions above and avoid Rhyl itself or anywhere east of Rhyl. West Rhyl is officially one of the most deprived areas in Wales and the rest of it isn't much better. If you really want to stay in the Rhyl area then Towyn is your best bet, it's only a couple of miles away from Rhyl itself and has it's own convenience stores, pubs, arcades, fairgrounds and kebab shops. In addition to Ty Mawr you could also try Henllys Farm - http://www.henllys.com/ - which is located within a couple of minutes walk of most of the "amenities" Towyn has to offer.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

thanks for replys.. it is only for 2 nights, we usually go portmadog but thought stay a bit closer to home as theres alot of us in each family and we are taking 2 cars full of stuff so saves on petrol..

In that case I'd go for Towyn. It's just far enough away from Rhyl and as the village is effectively one big campsite it's got more than enough amenities for a weekend. There are two funfairs (Tir Prince - http://www.tirprince.co.uk/1762/AmusementPark.html & Knightley's), several amusement arcades, a number of pubs and clubs and it's also on the coast so you're within easy walking distance of the beach. You could spend a day in Rhyl seeing the "sights" (and believe me you'll see some sights in Rhyl ;)) then head back to the relative safety of Towyn in the evening. It's not the most upmarket of places to stay but it should be ok for a weekend family break.

Why not save a little more fuel and go here http://www.greenacresanimalpark.co.uk/home.cfm Greenacres is just outside Queensferry has alot to offer familys and you wont see your kids if there old enough to go around the Farm. Nightime they have a small bar & disco and a good place to go camping. (works out cheaper to camp than a day visitor for families)
