How to send a parcel

Hi. I have sold quite a few items on e-bay but they have all been small enough to send in the post. However, I would like to sell a pair of blackout curtains which are obviously quite heavy. What is the best way to send these and how would you advise them to be packaged.

Any help gratefully received. Thank you

I would get a box, maybe from your local shop or something, and post them in that. If you put them in the box and weigh them then go to the royal mail website and put the weight in the price finder that will give you prices for different options of posting. It all depends on how heavy they are as to how you will have to post them.

You could try one of the couriers that have been mentioned in a few other threads on this board.

The one I use is Selective2007, although some people do have problems with them. You can send up to 30kg for £3.99, so I think they are good value for money.

Their website is cheaper than their items on Ebay, they charge £4.25 on Ebay.

To choose the service you want and to pay for the parcel go to: http://selectiveuk.tripod.com/id9.html

To book the parcel go to: http://selectiveuk.tripod.com/id12.html

We tried this type of postal reseller in the past. Great for casual deliveries but we found that for anything urgent it was difficult to be sure the actual service had been booked. You are waiting on a real human to toddle along and book the service for you after they receive the web form request. If anyone hears of a tighter sytem in existence, let me know.

What is the standard level of insurance that Selective UK give? Their ebay listings say £50 but i cant see it anywhere on their website... and there doesnt seem to be an option to purchase increased insurance on their website

I use my local branch of Staples. They'll accept packages up to 30kg and despatch by Securicor (I think) for £8. If you think this is dear, try sending 30kG by Parcel Farce, City Link, or any of the well-known carriers.

I have sold heavy fabrics before warpped in heavy duty bin bags.

Take two bin bags, DO NOT OPEN THEM. Lay them ontop of each other so you have 4 thickness of plastic. Put the item in, fold up like a normal parcel and then sticky tape closed. I then cover the parcel in either broad sticky tape or parcel tape.
Makes a light to post, very resiliant covering.
