Had to apply to live my partner in rented accom. bad credit

Hi,

I have recently moved in with my parnter in his rented house. This house is being rented from a rental agency and he has been with them for 2 years.

We have found a bigger property we want to move into and have contacted the agency who have advised that I need to be on the agreement, as if one of us moves out, they have no leg to stand on. So I have gone to the agency today and filled out an application so that we can move forward and move into the new rental (same rental agency)

My worry is my credit, it's very poor and due to a direct debit being cancelled I have 2 late payments showing on my credit as well as credit allowed being over what it should.

Can anyone give me any advise of what they might do? The rent is paid by my partner and goes out of his account monthly to the agency. They did charge us an admin fee for my application so I am assuming they are going to credit check me? If they do it will almost certainly come back as a bad check, what would happen from there? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

The only way you'll know whether you pass the criteria or not is to take the credit check. It may not be as bad as you think, unless you have CCJ's. Even then they may ask you for a deposit, just in case, and let you have the tenancy upon receipt of it.

Their checks won't enable them to see late payments, just defaults and CCJs.

I have no ccj's or defaults just very poor rating, low score. Partner has been with this agency for 2 years, never missed a payment. I'm just hoping my low score won't affect things.

They said they would let us know how the application was going next week, I read somewhere you can be put on the tenancy as an occupant rather than a co applicant? Hopefully they can sort something for us anyway

You should be ok then. I wouldn't have thought they would be the most stringent credit checks, as my ex-partner had a 'satisfied' (next day!) CCJ show up, and it wasn't a problem, as all else was fine.

CCJ's, and defaults will be what most companies look for, as poor credit scores could be due to various factors, such as scant proof of income, or fixed address, and other things.

Late payments are still payments so shouldn't be too much of a problem, plus your credit although over what you mentioned it should be, has still been allowed, so can't see a problem with that.
