This is all new to me -- But thanks to the help here I will start with fitting a new element and see if that works. Shame to buy a new cooker if it can be fixed.

    I agree with ZAX

It's easy to point and say 'it worked before' but the fact that it is tripping with the cooker and not tripping with other things means the cooker probably needs a new eleiment

Remeber the RCD is doing its job- it is set to trip when the touch voltage gets close to 50V (this is deemed to be a potentially fatal dose).
Hmm. Dare I say, that the old 'voltage operated earth leakage trip was set to trip at a touch potential of 40V. But an RCD operates on a completely different principle, detecting a leakage current of 30mA or 100mA or whatever the trip is rated at.

Both however are intended to prevent anyone getting more than 40V across themselves.

So with all that information are we still saying that to replace the element even though the oven was previous to the refurbishment working perfectly well ( I guess maybe not safely enough) will solve the tripping problem

In summary, yes. If you can pin it down to an element.

Part of the Furniture 100 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
What you have is probably a Neutral to Earth fault on your oven which only either a RCD or a PAT would discover which would explain why your RCD is tripping.

Although I would be asking the electrician who installed the new DB to carry out a ramp test on the RCD installed to prove that it wasn't faulty.

    Thank you one and all
1 new element for £20 from Ebay = 1 working cooker --- Yay!

Well done, it was an odds on certainty (says the voice of experience...)
