Tesco Credit Card - Statement sent in error

Options
I received an official looking Tesco credit card statement today which was addressed to TESCO BANK followed by my address. The statement relates to a VISA card whereas I have a Tesco Mastercard. My first reaction was that it was a con that relied on people taking the statement at face value and sending off the payment or worse that I was a victim of identity theft and an account had been opened using my details.

I called Tesco and was amazed to be told that 'they were aware of the problem and that the statements had been sent out in error and I should just ignore it'.The person I spoke to was very abrupt and dismissive. I asked why nothing had been posted on their website to allay peoples fears that they were not victims of identity fraud rather than having to call Tesco to be told to 'ignore it'.

Has anyone else received false statements from Tesco?

Tesco CCs were originally VISA, and then changed to Mastercard, so it's possible. I can only assume they changed because Mastercard requests a higher percentage fee from the merchant for processing the transaction (My assumption, may be false, willing to be corrected)

I've never received a statement from tesco however as my account is paperless and payment is automatic via direct debit.

I am a postie, and I've had a few people hand these back to me with TESCO BANK where the person's name should be, so DEF a bad batch of statements been sent in error from Tesco!

Yes I got one of these yesterday and got exactly the same response when I reported it.
    Very odd!
