what reason have you been given for not being entitled to Child Tax Credit?

You won't get Income Support as they would only pay for youirself at £57.45 weekly and your IB exceeds this. You SHOULD get CTC.

I was turned down for the maternity grant and appealed. WIthin a few days I had a cheque in the post.
there is a moral in there somewhere I'm sure of it :D

Keep going and I'm sure you will get what you are entitled to - remember to get back payments too (and enjoy your bundle of joy too :o )

Firstly you need to claim child tax credit then you may get sure start maternity grant as child tax credit is one of the qualifying benefits to receive the sure start grant i would put a claim in for that ASAP ,the sure start grant i think you have up to 6 months after the baby is born to claim it .Incapacity how long have you received this? After 12 months if you are still not fit to work you will go onto long term incapacity which at present is £95 a week but next month it is going up a couple of pounds to around £98 a week .These amounts for incapacity include a age addition because you are under i think it is 45 and you are ill .You really do need to speak to a benefits adviser at CAB as i am sure you sould be getting more help with money than you are .

You have a six week old son, presumably a single parent (not judging, just guessed since you haven't mentioned a fella and said you lived at your sisters) and you obviously aren't working, nor do you need to wotj six weeks after giving birth.

Why are Dss finding this so difficult?? Its clear cut, illness or diability aside you automatically qualify as a single parent not working??!!

Although getting the Incapacity was right at the outset, it should have been changed over in your third trimester of pregnancy. If that is there mistake, they owe you from that date and anything else you've lost because of it (HB, Milk, Surestart etc).

You need to formally complain in writing, recorded delivery, and keep lon at it. Dont just settle at having it changed over now, thats a start but you want it from when you were duly entitled to it at least 2 months back!
  • Don't come off incapacity benefit.

You would have gotten income support but it seems from your post you were previously working hence the reason they gave you incapacity benefit straightaway.

Usually one gets started on income support, gets a letter to go and do the PCA test, if you pass you go onto incapacity benefit, if you fail you get reduced rate income support.

You need to apply for child tax credit, anyone with income of less than around £14,000 per year will get this. Include proof of your income - incapacity benefit

You have till your baby is three months to apply for surestart grant. But if you keep your surestart refusal letter, when you eventually get your tax credit award letter(even if it is a year later) you take this with your surestart letter to your jobcentre to request for a review of their decision and you will get the grant within a few days of you notifying them.

Once you apply for tax credit, you will also automatically start receiving milk tokens plus a cheque to cover the period missed.
WHAT I SAID NEVER CHANGED ANYONE, WHAT THEY UNDERSTOOD DID:A

    What about maternity allowance?

We got a £500 grant, and I was working full time (only on £11K though)
