Sky Anytime+ Questions

Options
We have 2 sky hd + boxes in our household, 1 mian 1 multi-room. Both currently have sky anytime (not +). We're eligible for a free upgrade to anytime +. I've held off on doing it as I have a few queries.

1. Can I upgrade just one of the boxes to anytime + and keep the other as just anytime?
a. If you can do just one box can I choose which box or does it have to be main only?

2. Last time I checked at a friends house who had anytime + it didn't seem like you had the instant anytime features, is this correct? What I mean is, if I upgraded to anytime + do I have to download ALL content or is some of it immediately available as it is on anytime?
a. If content is still available on anytime+ without having to download is it as much as anytime or less/more?

3. If I upgrade to anytime+ on one or both boxes (where applicable) will I lose any currently saved content? For example will it effect any of my recordings be it recorded or scheduled to record?

4. Is it worth upgrading in general and why?

I understand the boxes need to be connected online to access anytime+ content, I have BT infinity so I'm not worried about that, however one box can be easily connected to the broadband router (wired) the other would have to be wireless,
What are my wireless options? Do I need to purchase a separate adapter or could I wire that box to a wireless bridge for example?

Thanks

  • 0 Just put an Ethernet cable into the box you want.

1 I suppose so, as other box is not connected

2 There is a slight delay before first view. This is dependent on connection speed. Note, if you are on a capped ISP, it gobbles your allowance

3 No, it adds further selections.

4 Yes as it gives wider choice, but depends on your package.

Other, wireless not sure, but home plugs are used by some people.

You will need to register first on your sky account

You: anytime+ requires a broadband connection, right?
Zainab: We have a specialized team which deals with this. I can transfer your chat to them right away.
    You: sure
Zainab: Please stay connected whilst I transfer your chat.

Wasim: Hello, you're chatting with Wasim, a Sky advisor, may I take your name please?
    You: Jamie
    Wasim: Hi Jamie
You: i'm thinking about updating from skyanytime to anytime+ but have a few queries
Wasim: What brings you to our web site today?
Wasim: Please feel free to ask,
You: we currently have 2 HD+ boxes in our household, is it possible to update just one of them to anytime+ and not the other?
Wasim: Yes its possible, however Anytime+ service gets activate on your Sky Account,
Wasim: To receive Sky On Demand you need a Sky+HD box with Sky+ subscription and a broadband internet connection.
You: yes, i have all those. To activate anytime+ do i do it online through my online sky account or do i do it through the sky box?
Wasim: First you have to connect your Broadband with your Sky box with the help of ethernet cable or wireless connector, and then you have to activate it through your My Sky Account,
Wasim: Let me send you a link to a page that contains that information.
You: sorry can you clarify is my sky account online or through the sky box itself?
Wasim: It will help you with the video to connect it and to process to activate,
Wasim: Its online, through your My Sky Account,
You: reason i ask is, as i asked earlier, if i want to activate just one box, does that work by simply activating through that specific box or, if i have to do it online (web browser), then i have to choose which box
Wasim: As I said, Anytime+ service gets active on your Sky Account, so on which ever box you want to access Anytime+ connect only that box with your Broadband,
You: understood, so if both boxes were connected to broadband then they would both be active on anytime+
    Wasim: Correct
You: can u revert back to anytime from anytimr+?
Wasim: Yes, If you unplug your Broadband from your Sky box it will again the normal Anytime box, Anytime+ online works through Broadband, however as this service is free of cost for Sky TV customers, so you dont have to pay for it if that service remains active on the account,
You: if i unplug broadband after using anytime+ will i keep anything i have downloaded or will i lose it?
Wasim: I am afraid, if you remove the Broadband from the box and try to view the content which you have downloaded, you wont be able to view them, because
Wasim: The content which you download can be access through the Red button on your Sky Remote and that access only if Broadband is connected to your Sky box,
You: ifi reconnect the broadband later will the content i had previously downloaded before unplugging then be accessible again?
    Wasim: Yes, you can
You: and what about the other way round, if i currently have conent saved (recorded) from anytime and then switch to anytime+ will the recorded anytime conent still be available to me?
Wasim: Yes, that will be accessible because to access Anytime, no need of Broadband, so if it is connected or not, it does not matter, those content will be available,
You: great, does a telephone line need to be connected on both boxes or is the broadband ethernet connection sufficient?
You: i mean, specifically for using interactive services, does the broadband line takeover from that or will the telephone line still need to be connected for full usuage?
Wasim: Ideally, telephone line is mandatory to access your Sky box because we receive signals through your active telephone line which is connected, so we recommend to connect active telephone line at all the time with your Sky box,
Wasim: And to access Interactive services you have to connect active telephone line with your Sky box, without that you wont be able to use it,
You: ok, i think thats all my questions answered
You: you've been very helpful, thank you. Is there anything else in particular I should know before upgrading?
Wasim: Let me help you with the link also so that you get a brief idea about Anytime+ service, how to connect, what are the features, etc,

RESOLVED. Figured I put this here incase it helps anyone else.

The capped ISP thing is a bit point to consider.
As if you're watching in HD some programs are 2-3GB download, which is going to absolutely eat say a 10-20GB monthly limit...

I'm not reading that transcript, but if you need to make a Sky box wireless, they're selling adaptors for £10.
