I think that's everything!0 -
I think you'll be struggling to get silestone at £1500 for 9m, it tends to be the most expensive of the usual quartz brands.
There are a bunch of acrylics like corian that may fall into your price bracket though.0 -
Well, to be honest I don't know much at all about the surfaces, except that laminate = cheap (feels it, looks it, lasts it), and solid wood = high maintenance.
Beyond that, anything which would be high durability, works on a curve ideally, and in budget would be nice :-)
It looks like Corian may not be scratch resistant, but then we're only planning on staying in the same property 5 years or so that may not be a big issue :-)
We're thinking about Balterio Imperial Teak laminate flooring (traditional sapphire), and I'm sure we could find a colour to match.
The budget could probably be pushed a little if it got a better quality material, but would I be right in thinking we'd need to push it a fair bit for Silestone?
Do you think an acrylic like Corian would be doable for £1500?0 -

Acrylic surfaces such as Corian tend to be as expensive as granite and quartz, but IMO lack the translucency of the latter. They are also more heat sensitive, and they scratch.
Silestone is rather expensive. Other brands of quartz are much cheaper, and made on the same machines so almost the same material. I think Silestone has an anti-bacterial agent included.
You do not have to have the worktop supplied by the kitchen people. The general feeling here is to avoid people who cut and fit stone on site. If you do go for stone, get a company that makes templates, and then has it cut off site, using expensive CNC equipment. You get a better result.
My rough guess is that you'd pay at least 2K for quartz for your kitchen, assuming no curves. Upstands are relatively cheap. You might want a splashback for the cooker.
I second the suggestion of an independent kitchen company. They will probably have their own fitters too, and I would guess they work to a higher standard than B&Q ones etc. Just a guess. The kitchen designers here might be able to comment.
I saw some bamboo worktops at Wickes. They looked nice, although I have no idea how hard wearing they are.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
We used a company for our kitchens called Stone Valley Work Surfaces who are on the internet but are national. We had a product called Silestone but i would think 9m of this would be very expensive. They have some alternative products that are alot cheaper so you may want to get in touch with them for a quote. I think their budget range is called Cliveden which to be honest looks the same as some of teh Silestone colours but a fraction of the cost, hope this helps!!0

Good company, we did our bathrooms with their Selkie board.0 -
The solid surface OP is looking for is for a worktop!

No you are right - I didn'tI was commenting in general, did you look at the link? Hmmm......guess not!
(I have now
) because I am aware of Selkie Board already but then again your post did read as though you were suggesting Selkie board for this job even if you didn't mean to. Never mind.
