Not sure why you think that.

There is a Sony Bravia here that has no ethernet connection :

My uncle bought one when it was only £399 and its an impressive picture, he has no internet at his house so a "smart" enabled one would be a waste of money.

Fair play! First one of that size I've seen in a while without an Ethernet connection! After seeing/fitting so many. I assumed it was as standard as FreeviewHD and a USB connection!

I have a Samsung D6530 'Smart' TV but even though it's hooked up to a PC with media capability (Hp Microserver configured for media playback/NAS) as well as a 360 and PS3, I still find the smart features on the TV handy as you can access them straight from the remote control. It's also simpler for other members of the family to use the features on the TV.

I do find some of the sections of the interface very clunky particularly the youtube client but there's a Youtube remote client you can load on an Android phone (and possibly others) which allows you to choose the video on your phone and it outputs on the TV. There's also a Samsung remote application which isn't so handy although you can connect a Samsung phone (again, possibly others) if it's on the same network and have the TV play back video or pictures stored on the phone.

As an addition to an earlier comment, I thought I couldn't rewind or fast forward on my TV either when playing back video as pressing the rewind/fast forward button gave an operation not allowed error. However you can skip slowly back and forth using left and right on the main navigation pad or press tools and select time search to move quickly back and forth to choose the time point you want.
