Changing motability car from manual to auto

Does anybody know if motability agree to let you change your car from a manual to an auto if they let you keep your current car until the new car is ready? or do you have to send your current car back before you can order another one?

Comments

  • - yes .. .. but its discretionary, so ring and ask, they are usually helpful
    - did you pay an advance payment on your current manual ?, and
    - will you need to pay an advance payment on your auto ?
    - - - ask about the refund and transfer value of the refund from old manual to new auto
    - usually the old is handed in when the new is collected as per the usual system

Thank's for the reply it was very helpfull, and made me feel alot better about ringing motability about this i suffer from extreme anxiety and find it very difficult to talk on the phone. :o

The advanced payment is slightly more on the auto but its the same car. Do you know how much they refund from your deposit? the original deposit was £600 the auto is £650 i have had the car 8 months.

You need to ask motability, they are the only ones that can tell you the exact amount of refund.

My husband changed from a manual to an automatic about 18 months into his contract. He just rang them up and explained the situation, they said no bother and told him to go and choose an automatic car. The new car took about 3 months to arrive after ordering it and he kept the manual until he picked it up.

I don't know about refunds on the advance payment because both the manual and the automatic were nil advance but I do know that you don't get the £250 good condition payment if you end the contract early.
