Hi,
My Brother MFC-640CW seems to have given up the ghost so I am in need of a new printer/scanner/copier.
Any ideas what I should go for? makes/models etc, I want a colour printer, I have fairly low useage and have plenty of spare cartridges fr my old printer if a new compatible printer is out there (I havent found one yet).
Any brands I should avoid?
Cheers,:)

well i for one just got a kodak hero 5.1 the old man just got me to buy him the hero 6.1 (office)
the reason being running costs with cheapness of ink for the kodaks and now running wifi so no wire hook up required now lappys.
the 5.1 costs £76.88 free del amazon
the 6.1 costs £129.95 free del amazon
depends on what you want really?? but my old man likes idea of fax as well.
staples got 6.1 for £99 staples and get free delivery to store.

I would say, stay away from lexmark expensive for cartridges.
epsons are pretty good, but always look on ebay first for the price of compatible cartridges, I would post some ebay sellers, but so far with my epson i've only used 1 inkpower bought a 14pack from them 3 years ago and still using them. was going to switch to a cheaper seller but due to having 1 set of cartridges left and not needing any just yet, will wait..
for jhe heres some compatible ink for your printer. 10 cartridges £9.65 includes delivery. 2sets + 2extra blacks.

Load of people swear by canon. Mine's pretty good, but the problem is you can only get the cartridges refilled once for the cheaper models.
I've heard Brother make good models with cheap ink but they're commercial rather than domestic use so they might look a bit dumpy and bulky.0 -
I really like my Kodak (ESP 5250). I think Kodak went out the door though but you can still get the machines and the (cheap) ink. Cheaper to run than any other printer i've had.0

Thanks for the replies guys. Its good to have a bit of a shortlist to go by, there are sooo many makes and models out there. Looks like I will shortlist Brother, Kodak and epson.YNWA

The epsons and brother all have pretty cheap replacements via e-bay (thanks again for that heads up andy!).
So, anyone have a preferance from the ones on the lisnk (on the right hand side of the page)?YNWA

Hi,
My Brother MFC-640CW seems to have given up the ghost so I am in need of a new printer/scanner/copier.
Mine did the same last year, so just bought this years Brother equivalent.
By using cheap cartridges, even if they do knacker the print heads (do they?) the savings far outweigh the expense of original cartridges.
Correct??????????0 -

I could not find a brother equivalent that used the same cartridges :-( so think I may have to scrap the ones I have left. In my case the cheaper cartridges did not knacker the printer but as you say the savings outweigh this anyhow (i.e 4 sets of 'cheap' cartridges and a printer for ~£90 which will last me ~5years)YNWA
