Car insurance quotes

Hi, am a new mummy and just wondering whether anyone knows why insurance quotes are drastically higher when you state you have a child?

Is it necessary to inform them of the change in circumstances/ take out a new policy and what are the implications if you do not disclose this information?

It just seems crazy for my insurance to go up by nearly 200.00 :mad:when i say i have a child!! i drive slower with my baby in the car and i personally feel drive safer.

Plenty of Grandparents are full time carers for their grand-children but they technically do not have young children themselves so i'm just wondering what difference it would make?

If anyone can help i would be very grateful as am in the process of getting a bigger family car :)

Thank you in advance. :)

Child screams, you lose concentration, perhaps turn around for a second and drive straight into the back of my car.

Statistics. In their profiling, you are a greater risk.

bit grizzly but I'm guessing it's because of the possibility of them having to fund life long car for a badly injured child and maybe children are more likely to be injured in an accident?

Really, it doesn't matter why, just shop around

My question was more so on whether you have to state you have a child and the implications if you don't etc..

I know as from this website your job etc doesn't matter and can swap that around to reduce a quote as long as you aren't being fraudulent.

I just do not see the relevance as like i previously stated: "Plenty of Grandparents are full time carers for their grand-children but they technically do not have young children themselves"
therfor they have the children in the car as much as the parents would or possibly more? and what about people that look after friends children?

Like i said i am just shopping around for quotes using comparisson websites etc that is how i discovered in the 1st place!

I personally feel i am no greater risk than the idiots on the roads using there phone whilst driving or whatever. :D

Are you doing dummy quotes? False name, false address, (but close) generic car? Sometimes changes in quotes are loaded just because they can. Try a new one for each scenario.

I have been putting in all my own details, the only ones i have altered to show my partner was the question whether i have a child/children under 16 as soon as i ticked yes the price jumped right up :/ I also have the registration of the cars ive looked at so have put that in..

Have you tried the AA, they are brilliant.

My usual Insurance company pumped mine up £40 when I told them I had retired. I drive less than what I did but according to them if I'm not at work Im driving more in my spare time now.

    Madness.

Yuo have to tell them of any change of circumstances.
Not wait for them to ask.

I retired last Sept. it didnt occur to me to tell them then but I suddenly realised that I should do when it got to renewal.
