Natwest Private Select account - wrong debit card?

I always thought Coutts & Co were the private banking arm of NatWest0
-
Product code you need is 'ZK', I suspect the code you are on at the moment is 'ZJ' which is the standard version.
They need to change it through account maintenance and then basic details.
Good luck, PM me if you need any other help or if you don't hear from your RM.0 -
Well my RM got back to me (the reason he was nonexistent before is because he has changed "assistant" and I was emailing his old one) and apparently my account is now being converted from a Select Account to a Private Select Account.
No applying for anything, no changing account numbers.
Only thing I will say is that he made the process sound very bureaucratic - he went on about "paperwork at our end" - but I don't care how it gets done I suppose....
Couldn't have done it without your knowledge Madgagoo.... without your persistence I would have taken the word of the first person I spoke to!:o
Of course I'm yet to get the appropriate debit card - I may be back after advice on that score....:)0 -
Glad you got sorted.
You'll have to ask for a private branded cheque book and paying in book as well!!! Although if I'm honest, I prefer the standard cheque book now - the new private one is too 'minamalist' for me.0 -
Ah... well I wondered about this.
You see (and as you have guessed I am a customisation freak!) I have a left-handed chequebook (where the binding is on the right instead of on the left). Do those actually exist in Private branding?
Thanks!!0 -
Yes they do, cheque book type 06 (or 05 if you would like a welsh one - you can only have that if you live in Wales as well though!!)0
-
Account code change has apparently been sorted - fired you a PM with a couple of questions...:)
Thanks!0 -
OK - I tried sending the PM twice now and both times it isn't showing up in Sent Items :-(
I'll post a redacted version below if it hasn't arrived:
"Hi,
Yay - in theory this has been done:
"Thank you for your email. I have arranged for your Select Account to be coded ZK which denotes Private. This is just an internal code which does not affect the operation of your account other than showing anyone looking at it internally that it is a Private Account. The account number will stay the same.
Consequently there is no paper work required from yourself."
Though the account appears identically in NWOLB:
Account name Current Account
Account type SELECT ACCOUNT
Account number ********
Sort code **-**-**
Bank address **********************
Is the idea now that I just call up and say I want a "New debit card & PIN"? If they ask why I need one, would "I want the private-branded debit card" suffice as an answer? (I am a little nervous about that as the answer because everyone I spoke to didn't seem to believe such a thing existed and that all debit cards were identical unless you had a Black account).
Also would I be wise to wait a bit before asking for this - how rapidly do the systems update "globally"?
Alternatively if you think that a world of woe leads down that path I'd be happy to go through you instead... not that I expect you to help, indeed if it's possible to do it without taking up your time I'd almost prefer that!
Thanks!!"

Just to avoid any disappointment just because you have a Natwest Private Select account it does not mean you are guaranteed
to get the a private branded debit card.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
The card type you need is quite rare and not one that I have come across often. It's a Private Branded Contactless Card.
The guys on the regular banking lines don't know very much I'm afraid, so I expect they will be very puzzled if you ask for the Contactless Private Card.
Most of them don't know what product codes are etc, because it's not something they deal with on a daily basis.
There is a way for them to order one which will avoid errors on their part, and the bank's system will populate the order screen with the right details. I can't discuss bank systems on a public forum for obvious reasons - if you're not happy with the answer the person on the phone gives you I would ask they raise a query (this is the in-house term for a formal enquiry which the bank cannot answer for a customer then and there). This will result in someone more experienced looking at your case and then getting back to you by phone or in writing.0
