made redundant need advice

Options
hi there
until yesterday i worked for a well known greeting card shop currently in the news, we were in administration and were told certain shops in the company which were a completely separate company eg their own wages, area managers ,ordering system ect were all closing and that certain shops in the other half would be going and some would be going to a new buyer we were one of the ones supposedly going to a new buyer and the other shop in our town was definatly going ,then yesterday we were informed we had a buyer but that they didnt want our shop ,which although sad we could not do anything about ,we have since been told that the buyer has decided ti keep the other shop open but rebrand it as our shop and keep all there staff so my first question is can they do that ,surely they are giving our jobs to the other company ??? also we had no notice no offers employment elsewhere and i still havnt had anything in writing ,i was ok about it but i am now starting to think this is really unfair on both sides but the other shop were definatly going there company is no more ours is still trading please help:mad::mad::(

    Don't see a problem,

Every thing is up for sale, shops, brands, people. stock, other assets.

New company cherry picks the assets they want, the shops(with the people ignore the cuurent branding) , then buys the brand it wants and makes them all that brand.

What you bneed to do is find out who is paying the redundacy and any pay due.

If there was no tupe - ie card retailer closed a shop then all workers in local shops would be put in a selection pool - just because it is your shop doesn't mean you go if you can work in another local branch, one of their staff may end up going. But I am not sure on how laws of tupe work and if they can select staff.

Where exactly were you hoping to be re-employed to, considering that the whole group is in financial difficulty and being shut down/sold off? They are having to get rid of people, not transfer them to a different store. Put your time and energy into looking for alternative employment would be my advice.

Also, it would be easier to read a post if it were divided up into sentences! ;)
