Extending the Drain Gully

Hi,
I have found our drain gully to be around 3 feet underground and had been covered over with dirt. I want to extend it upwards to ground level and fit grate over. The original drain gully is a 6 inch square pot and I cannot find any pot extensions so have purchased plastic. My question is how should I bond the two together - should I use mortar or is there a good silicone type fixative I could use to bond both pot to plastic and plactic to plastic? Any help appreciated. Thank you

If you dig down further, you should hopefully come to a "round" clay pipe which your square pot is attached to. You will need to dig a big enough hole to cut off the square pot gully to leave exposed the round clay pipe. Onto this fit "clay to plastic adaptor" (which you can buy from a building merchants) which are push fit with rubber seals; either use silicone lubricant or fairy liquid and then attach new 110mm plastic drain pipe from the adaptor and then new gully on to this to bring you to ground level.
After you have cut the 110mm pipe to required length, make sure you file both ends to give it a leading edge.

Make sure the original drain has a water trap in it. If the drain goes to sewers you will need one to stop bad smells coming up.
If you have to fit a water trap, leave it at least 750mm underground to prevent the water from freezing up and blocking it, possibly even cracking the new trap.If only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!
