  • Have you looked at M&S Money.

    3 yr fix pays 3.75%, but there is just a £100 penalty to close it (note you have to close it you can't withdraw only a portion).

    Put £5.6k into 1 yr cash ISA as suggested by earlier posters. If you put balance of £70k in an M&S 3yr and closed it after 12 months, gross interest would work out equivalent to 3.61% after deducting the £100 early closure charge.

    It doesn't show up on the best buy comparrison tables beacuse its not instant access and isn't a chart topping 3yr fix, but if it suits your circumstances, which from the sounds of it it should, its a gem of an account.

    In fact for anyone with over £20k to stash but wanting instant access to the lump sum its worth looking at the M&S fixed rate accounts.

    wow that does sound good, quite attractive to me actually as i am not sure when i will need it exactly as it is for a house deposit, so the longer i kept it in the beetter! thanks for that david, will definately look in to it.
