Little help required re a slight bump

My father recently had a very low impact crash whilst in tesco car park.

My father spoke to the other person whos car it was and said to get a quote and they will discuss further.

The other person called my father on monday with a quote and my father said he will call his insurance company and take it from there.

Yesterday my father received a call from the driver who stated that he had gone ahead with the work but did not get a receipt for the work.

Anyone able to advise where my father now stands as he wanted to go through the insurance to repair his car aswell...He has protected NCB with a low excess hence wanting to go through with the insurance

Thanks

Matt

Not sure where you stand legally but it's worth noting that protected NCB only protects the bonus, it doesn't stop them from increasing your base premium for the next five years which is what will almost certainly happen if this goes through insurance. If it really is that minor it will likely work out more cost effective to just fix it yourself.

As for what the other guy is doing. I have no idea, probably doesn't want it to go through insurance at all since his premium will also get loaded for the next five years even though this is not his fault.

How much is he claiming the work cost?

My fathers excess is £50 and the work is over £400 for the two cars....£150 for his and £250 for my fathers.

The other issue is that the chap has now gone on holiday so impossible to contact.

Personally I would think that the chap should of at least waited for my father to come back to him, also no receipt for the work sounds slightly dodgy to say the least !

Price seems reasonable if we're talking about repairing scuffed paintwork, though bear in mind I haven't seen the damage.

In deciding what to do, I'd get some insurance quotes using fake details for someone similar to your dad, and compare the prices with and without the accident on record.

Take the difference, multiply by 5, add your £50 excess and see if it comes to more than 400 quid, if it does then it will be more cost effective to keep insurance out of it.
