Free books and a way to donate ones you don't want - seems like a really excellent idea. There are limited stores so far, but very useful if there is one near you. Thanks to dianasnan here -

I agree with you FrenchKnickers. Over there you barely even celebrate St Georges Day so you don't often get a chance to be patriotic. What I'm trying in a bad way to say is that dragging Northern Ireland into pro-British comments isn't needed.

Its not that we don't want to celebrate St Georges Day its all the P.C. councils who presume others will be offended by the St Georges Flag & Union Jack & Christmas etc.

Re Northern Ireland I don't think that we learnt enough about the Northern Ireland, U.K., Republic Of Ireland history at school & I personally get very confused about it all.

Also those who claim to be 100% English I always thought I was as did my Mum & her Dad but if you go back a couple of more generations most will have Irish ancestry, Welsh, Scottish or from another country.

Alistair McGowan being a prime example his "Who Do You Think You Are" episode is one of my favourites. As he said with a name like that he couldn't be more scottish WRONG he has Anglo Indian ancestry living where I do I had already figured that out

Just been to T B0r3h@mw00d, loads of real food vouchers after the checkouts. I used JTD, only small, and she gave me the receipt back unsigned - not that I would have used it again, but the staff are clearly not trained properly.

I must say they have some friendly staff at the moment, a lot of youngsters working the tills who always chat and smile and one particularly nice girl on CS. Still a few there who give fish their name.

Good morning all - anyone ever made cherry vodka before - I seem to have a lot of cherries as lots were whoopsied last night - not sure whether to pit them or not - any advice greatly appreciated

I make this with cherry syrup and polish pure spirit. Quick google on Vishnovka recipes finds this " taking one pound of pitted sour cherries (make sure they’re pitted b/c they’ll make the liqour bitter) and then washed and dried very well. Empty a 1.75 litre handle of good quality vodka. Fill the bottom with the cherries and two heaping spoonfuls of granulated sugar. Fill the rest of the way with vodka and seal well. Let ferment in the sunlight for 3 months and then transfer into a dark cool place for another 2-3 months"

Alternatively adapt a sloe gin recipe?

How will I ever catch up??!!!!:o:o:o

    Afternoon Lovelies :hello:

The birthday party yesterday was a very quiet affair but nice to catch up :) She didn't open the cake balls so hopefully she'll like them, I just advised refrigeration! Everyone else went home at 12, when the pub closed but me and a friend decided to make the most of the night and venture to our one and only nightclub :p (Panicking at the mo that all my younger years have disappeared before my eyes and I'll be a repressed mutton dressed as lamb 40 year old trying to get down with the kids!:() It's sometimes a laugh because it's all locals and you see people you went to school with but it's not the sorta place you'd make a special journey for ;):p What was funny last night was that half the T's younger SA's were there :rotfl:I smiled and waved at one and my friend p'd herself laughing when I told her I know him from T's :rotfl:

Hope everyone's ok and having a lovely weekend. I have a shop to plan and I'll have to start catching up later :Axx

Sounds like a good idea if you can cope with second hand books, the smell of a second hand book shop makes me gag all musty dusty and fusty :(

:( I am guessing it all started in the south-east as there is a definite concentration, and perhaps expanded outwards from there. Hopefully the idea will spread and head northwards soon :) Guess it is dependent on a Landlord donating shopspace foc and available volunteers.

Our history is a confusing one alright. Most of what you guys know is gleaned from the news. Living here is totally different. It's not as bad these days but yes, more should be done to educate people. I don't even claim to know all the history. All I know is that NI is a country that isn't even 100 years old. Half the country is British, half Irish (not quite true as some eejits have decided to come from far & afield like Poland to live in this place!). Politics & religion are topics you just don't discuss in public - we've been conditioned that way.

And just to get my own back - we get an extra 3 days holiday over here for being patriotic! March 17th for St Patricks Day and July 12th & 13th. I could just imagine if you tried to petition to make St Georges Day a public holiday

And as for football .... does the date 7th September 2005 mean anything :rotfl: :p
