insurance excess

if a third party claims against your insurance (rather than you claiming), in the event of a payment by your insurers do you pay any policy excess as well as losing NCB? Also, can the 3rd party stipulate the repair garage (e.g. insist on premium-price BMW main agent for a BMW car), or is it for you and/or your insurers to get competitive quotes, assuming reputable firms? Many thanks for any help out there.

You claim for damage to you or your property. Then you pay the excess.
They make the claim then i dont think you pay the excess as long as your not claiming for damage to your car.
You will lose your no claims or a percentage of it unless its protected. Even then it depends how its worded.
If they want a BMW dealer to repair their car then i guess its fairly new and in good condition, I dont blame them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

No excess to pay for a third party claim against you.
Yes, you can insist on repairs being carried out at your chosen repairer.0 -
If the damaged car is under warranty and taken to another repairer
then the warranty can be invalidated.
Ive had two non faults and taken it to my main dealer just because of this.
Didnt go down well with the people who hit my car but if they will insist on backing into me in the middle of any empty field well.......enough said lolmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

.... surly i shouldn't be paying anything
You have claimed off your own insurer. Your cover doesn't include your excess.
This and all other uninsured losses you will have to claim off the third party (or use any "legal cover" you have with your policy to do this for you.
(Your NCD (if not protected) will also be reduced until your insurer gets fully reimbursed, which can be a problem if your renewal comes up before it's sorted)
Next time you are involve in an incident where the third party is liable consider claiming direct off the third party (or using a claim handler) to avoid all this hassle.0 -
BUT shouldn't we be contacting our own insurance. not reporting an accident. could possibly make insurance nil and void?
my NCB is not affected, etc, just surprised i have to cough up now when surprise surprise i have no money, literally, wedding in a matter of days and i have someone not pay attention (she admitted it) and now my car needs looking at because someone else messed up. :mad:0 -
You don't need to "claim" off your own insurer (and couldn't if you had third party cover).
All you have to do us inform them of any incidents - if you aren't wanting to claim, then you make that clear to them, and they record it "for information only"
You could see if they will let you cancel your claim without any cost, and if so, take it direct to the third party as post #60 -
well i need to look into this, so far they have failed or someone has, spoke to them yesterday and was told a garage will call me and arrange pick up of car and drop off curtsey car, if not it will be today, again it's saturday that isn't going to happen, i wouldn't mind so much but it is a matter of days away from the wedding so car is needed.
maybe i should ring them and tell them (rsa) not to do anything the call was just to inform them and then ring swift cover with the details of their person..?0 -
Swiftcover not known for being too helpful. So if you get nowhere with them, say you intend using a claim handler then, and see if that alters their approach.
If not, then let a claim handler sort this - they should ensure you have a replacement vehicle in time for the wedding.0
