in Credit cards
Hi,
Can anyone help me. I recently tried to get a pay monthly mobile phone after my pay as you go packed out.
I last had a contract phone about 12 years ago.
I was sitting down with the lady in the shop and going through the credit check. I got turned down by T mobile and then Orange.
I've applied for an Experian credit check that has just come through.
According to the report I have an excellent credit score.
I have since bought a fairly decent mobile on pay as you go again as I needed a phone urgently (thanks very much Tesco clubcard double up - got a £170 phone for virtually nothing!)
so no longer need a contract phone, however I am just wondering why on earth I would be turned down by 2 providers?
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm was so shocked (and embarrased) at the time as I have had steady employment at the same company for the last 10 years, have no outstanding debts apart from credit cards I pay off in full every month, up to date on mortgage etc.
Thanks.

I can never get a phone with Orange but had not problem getting a balance transfer deal of 22 months for over 4 grand...
T-Mobile are part of Orange now so I would try another operator like 3 or o2. It might also be worth printing your credit files and taking them with you incase the address and name do not match properly on their system when they pull through from their database. I had a problem with that and my flat as the address was odd.Total Debt Feb 2012 [STRIKE]£12,153[/STRIKE] 10674 16.5% Paid

Might be worth checking your credit file with the other 2 credit reference agencies to see if there is anything unexpected showing?
Were you applying for the phone at the same address as you are on the electoral roll and have your mortgage /credit accounts to? Have you moved at all recently?
Are you financially associated with anyone else on your credit file - and might they have problems on their file?
Have you had any historical problems with a previous phone contract - been cut off for non payment or had problems a stolen phone or fraudulent calls?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Im on Pay as you Go, of which I have been on the same one for nearly 10 Years. Yet my phoning habits mean my credit is ridiculously high. Its been 4 Months since I topped up and my credit is currently £167.
I stand next to no chance on getting a contract phone with my provider, as a result of my low cost phone history.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

TMobile and Orange are always in my experience harder to get.
I got THREE with bad credit file, And had problems with it, ended in a default.
Since then i got a vodafone ( Lumia contract on release day ) with no problems, no deposit needed and went through fine. 6 months later i took a galaxy note contract and now have 2 vodafone contracts even though i have 2 THREE Defaults on my file. vodafone very friendly and the only thing i needed to do was disable my internet access as i don't use it but they still used it to transfer data i didn't care about.0 -
as with credit card applications you pick the luck of the drawer as some people with creid problems find that they can get a credit card hwoevere soeone elese with a perfect credit history would be declined.
i have 3 defaults on my file which amount to 10k however 2 years ago i got a contract with orange for htc desire for 18 months and then 6 months ago i got a contract for the sg2 with vodaphone0 -
Before you apply for _any further credit_ get a copy of your credit files from Call Credit, Equifax and Experian, as there may very well be an issue that's affecting your ability to gain credit.
Fix that potential issue FIRST, then you can re-apply for credit.0 -

I'm here!
Find out which CRAs the phone providers used and check those reports. Any check that came through Experian would have left a footprint on your Experian report.
If you can't find a problem with the reports that were consulted - and it sounds like your Experian report is in good shape - go back to the phone providers and ask them to give you a specific reason for saying no. Only they know. If they say it was because of credit scoring you have a legal right to request a manual review of your application, which could help you establish what the problem was.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your responses.
The credit search made by Everything everywhere (or whatever they are called) si now showing on my Experian report.
I still can't understand it, I am on the electoral roll at my current address, etc. there is nothing else obvious.
I guess I will call them up and ask.
Thanks everyone.0
