They weren't looking for anywhere to rent were they though?
helping_hubby I fear your saga is not over, especially as they have found somewhere they want to buy. Almost anyone will try to forge ahead with the purchase now they have found somewhere. The fact that they have already gone to ground in order to avoid people means that there is the obvious danger that they will do it again, or continue to lie.
It is entirely people like this that make the whole deal so stressful; so selfish that they lie, cheat and expect an entire chain to put their lives on hold waiting for exchange when they know it's not happenening. Do people not understand that if they were just honest and said that they couldn't find anywhere that people would mostly be happy to wait? No, they think it's better to let people blindly head towards their anticipated moving date and then let a blithering EA let the story slip.
You're damn right that your vendor should put some pressure on and I think you should be threatening to look elsewhere if exchange doesn't occur before Easter. You don't need to threaten to pull out, just look elsewhere. And actually do it!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

They haven't exchanged contracts so the money is just being held by their solicitor waiting for exchange to happen. It's still theirs so they get it back.
IF they had exchanged contracts, the money would belong to their vendor, but we wouldn't be having this conversation as they'd have a secure moving dateEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Today is hopefully the day where we either get an exchange date, or (assuming he's being serious) our seller pulls out.
I really don't mind either way, I just hope we have some concrete news today.
Wish me luck. Will post an update before the end of today.0 -
Good Luck!
I'll keep everything crossed for you! :kisses3:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We've heard nothing
Estate agent PROMISED to call us today and was rather short with us yesterday when we called and she said she'd phone today. She didn't and we haven't been able to get hold of her today and she hasn't returned our calls.
Solicitors know nothing.
And our vendor was supposed to talk to EA today and text us back, but he hasn't so I can only assume he couldn't get hold of her.
So what next? Yet another weekend (long one this time) of waiting? What do we do? I'm so fed up but I still don't want to pull out. I'm not convinced our seller wants to pull out either. I think it was a bluff.0 -
Oh dear
You need to frighten your vendors into action now; the people at the top are not commiting to this at all and at the very least you need to start looking elsewhere in the hope of getting your vendor to do the same. That way, you might keep at least your part of the chain together.
I'll be frank; you have been ready to exchange for 6 weeks now. I really hope the best for you but it doesn't bode well that they won't even give you a date, not even a projected one.
Patiently waiting is not going to get these people out of their house! If your vendors will not kick !!!!, you have to!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Will looking at other properties from other estate agents scare them? I was hoping that there'd be some houses with the estate agent we're with (so they'd believe we were serious rather than just saying it), but there's nothing in our price range at the moment.0

Yes it will. Purposely looking for properties with the same agent might look contrived anyway. If you actually do it, there can't be a doubt that you will sound convincing!
You need to find out if there is now a chain above the current top of chain people. Just ask people to cut the BS now, you need to know. Are they buying a house, are they waiting for that to be ready before they will exchange on their sale? Answer will be yes, no doubt, but straight questions only deserve straight answers and at least you will know for sure.
Make a list of what you need to know and read it out to both your solicitor and the EA and demand that they go up the chain and find straight answers.
You can let people know you are looking. You don't have to pull out, okay!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

To my mind this sort of carry on shows that the HIPs thingy that the government are so helpfully lumbering us all with will not help to speed things up at all.0
