Lost train tickets

My mate has bought some train tickets from London to Manchester on Trainline.com. They have been delivered and he has somehow lost them.

When he called Trainline.com he was told they won't reprint or duplicate the tickets.

The price of the tickets have now gone up to £75.

He tried to call them back to say they hadn't arrived in the post but they made a note on his booking.

Is there anything he can do?

Other than purchase a fresh ticket, there is nothing he can do. Tickets are not restricted to the purchaser, as such can easily be sold on.

In my experience they are incredibly inflexible on this on the day - although you can claim money back afterwards. I once failed to print out pre-ordered tickets, argued that the instructions on the email were unclear (I was in a hurry to catch the train!), wrote to them afterwards, and was refunded the money. Often a letter to the relevant department can help.
