Last month the Halifax informed me that they were switching my visa one credit card to a MasterCard. I was not given the option was just told they were going to do this.
I have now found out that the intrest rate is higher.
Can they do this ???
I'm soooo annoyed

What is happened is that HBOS has changed your card to Mastercard as you said. They have also been looking at interest rates too, and this has happened to yourself.
One is not connected to the other, HBOS started shipping Mastercards out in november/december; its just unfortunate that both have happened to you at the same time.

What you could do is call them up and ask to go through to the retention dept, they may be able to put the rate back to what it was.
