HALIFAX pre-approved Credit Card Issues *Help*

Hi,

Wondering if you can advise me on how best to tackle Halifax on this issue.

A couple of weeks ago when I signed onto my online banking I was offered a 'guaranteed approval' all-in-one credit card. I accepted and was offered £3400 limit. Paperwork arrives within 48 hours and I signed ad returned it. I then recived a letter within a day (so they wouldn't have had my signed document) saying they'd basically changed their mind - no other explanation.

I was peeved, I have Reward Account OD facility £1400 - in credit and several other accounts with them which means I have around £5k in Halifax.

I went into Branch, they said I was 'pre-approved' for their Clarity card, and I said 'Yes please'. It was approved then and there, but with a very low limit of £500, but I was OK with that - just thought it would be useful for holiday use because of the favourable fees.

Card appeared in my online banking that day. Has been there all week but today has been removed, and doesn't show online, on telephone banking at all.

Am both concerned and cheesed off. Can anyone help out here(am planning to call into Branch tonight after work).

Any advice gratefully accepted.

Not that this will help you massively, but I (after being rejected from student credit card with £500 limit, and an overdraft of any size on my current account the previous month) I had a "guaranteed approval" pop up on my internet banking for a HBOS card. Credit agreement sent, a week later I have a HBOS One Card with a £1350 limit sitting on my doormat, not only that they were offering to give me a £5k overdraft, and I'm a student.

All I can draw from this is that HBOS are unique in their credit scoring, and your internal credit scoring must jump around massively from month to month.

I would guess your card is approved on principle but when it gets to the deciding credit limit stage it is getting manually rejected. Whilst they will no doubt avoid telling you, why you keep getting decisions turned around against you, is there any reasons why they would hold a manual marker against you?
