Hi
I have a WiMax broadband connection (no modem required) but i have to manually connect everytime i boot up my pc using a PPoE connection in Windows Vista. I was wondering would it be possible to have an "always-on" connection by using some kind of device between my pc and the ethernet connection? My isp (https://www.vfast.co.uk) are only able to offer me a wireless router but i only have one desktop at home and that is permanently connected so pointless spending money on a wireless router. Yes, i know i could use windows task scheduler to connect everytime my pc starts up but would prefer my connection to be always on. Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You need a router with a DSL modem in built I'm afraid! That will cost as much as a wireless router these days![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

The wireless router may indeed have an ethernet port allowing you to hard wire your PC. You may also be able to switch off the wireless part of the router and/or beef up the security.0

Thanks for replying. My connection is not xDSL based because I have a small roof top antenna (connected to a local repeater) which directly connects to my pc via an ethernet connection. Looks like i will have to get some kind of router. Thanks for your help anyway.

If you just don't want to have to connect by clicking on the icon, could you not change the settings in Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections, Always dial my default connection. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
