Seller does not want to proceed as went for lower price than he expected

I think Hintza is subtly suggesting that you were involved in the cancelled bid, a practice called bid shielding.
I don’t think you were so don’t have a go at me.
Thanks for explaining - I am a bit naive about the tricks of ebay. But we are hardly likely to have done this as we had already offered to pay him more several days earlier.
I thinki Orlwaysbroke idea is more likely to be nearer the truth, he probably hoped we had bidded more than we had and then when that did not happen the highest bid was cancelled.0 -

Maybe the seller had a mate who bidded up the price in the hope that someone approached the price he really wanted.
Illegal , unethical and against eBay rules...
This would explain it - as he had not put a reserve price on and it was not going for as much as he wanted.
I still dont understand how he cancelled the highest bid as mentioned by Pennylane.0 -
Thanks for everyones advice. Not sure I understand this - how did the seller cancel the bid and if so why is he complaining about it being cancelled?
I have heard from him this morning - basically his reply is
"Do what you have to do - but I am not happy to sell at £700. You had already bid more than that before the other bid was cancelled"
no idea why he is complaining...the seller can cancel bids at anytime..
if a seller cancels the bid, it shows on bid page as "cancelled" with reason from seller
if a buyer cancels the bid it shows as a "retraction" and you get 3 choices for the explanation, wrong amount, cannot contact seller, or seller changed description0 -

a seller can cancel bids at anytime right up to end of auction....his reason was buyer has no feedback...
he actually shot himself in the foot by doing that, he should have left it and offered 2nd chance bid to you, it would have been at your higher bid of £820....0 -
