my rights without a contract

Hi all.
I have been renting a house for 20 months and when the contract ran out after a year, the landlady didn't renew it. I think she didn't want to pay agent fees and so just let things carry on as they were.
She is now suggesting that she wants the house back and I don't know what rights, if any, i have. How much notice must she legally give me?
I am part DSS and there are no houses anywhere at the moment in my area (chigwell) that are accepting dss so i'm panicking about this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
