Do you need a one bedroomed place? Have you thought of applying to universities to stay in their student accomodation during the holidays? My daughter did this last year, and although it meant moving her and her excessive baggage(!) from one set of halls to another it was far more cost effective.

somewhere in south london would be preferable although west london should also be good (i work in central london so i can't stay at my uni during the holidays cause its in guildford)

oh and the area NEEDS a tube station

I live in South West London and there's absolutely no way that you're going to find a one bed flat, near to a tube station, for less than £400 pounds per month. Even studio flats in this general area go for at least £500 pcm, and that's not including bills. Have a look on Gumtree and you'll see what I mean.

Guildford isn't *that* far away from central London though - you can get a fast train straight through to Waterloo and it takes about 35-40 minutes, which isn't really an unreasonable commute. You'll save yourself an awful lot of money, even accounting for rail fares, if you stay in university accommodation over the summer.

When I last looked, an enormous number of people commute into London from Guildford; it's a major commuter town. Presumably they can't all be wrong! And I agree with Gingernutmeg about the rents in SW London; you're not being realistic.

i live in thornton heath (no tube, unfurnished, no bills included) - my 1 bed flat = £650 pcm!!!!!!

u could try gumtree for shared accommodation for your budget - https://www.gumtree.com

    good luck saver2006.

ive seen LOADS of adverts around my university asking for students who are going home for summer to allow someone else to stay there over summer.

ask around university, there are generally loads of empty properties over summer and you could prob negoiate rent with the students with the tenancy.

Hi again, don't know my geography of London too well, but my daughter stayed at Claredale last summer in Bethnal Green, (I think they are student res used by London Met Uni, although she is at present at LSBU,) and she works in the West end. It was a lot of moving back and forth though!
