You've got that completely wrong, why the hell is the word not there? :S You should definately be buying shot guns, machine guns and nuclea weapons, perhaps some VX gas, a few 9mm pistols, and oh yeah, eradicate the gun laws since it should be lawful to own a handgun for personal protection!

This is personal to me as a design student:

    To buy:

    Apple Laptop

    Not to buy:

    A PC of any kind!

Ive seen lots and lots of people on my course do work on their pc then not be able to use it in uni (all macs). They all wish they had bought a mac instead of a new pc now.

I think the reason for the sarcastic replies is that the items on your lists were insufficiently universal. Up until the last six months of my degree I didn't have a computer. I used the 24 hour computer clusters or got an out-of-hours pass to work in my departmental building. I went from halls on campus to a tiny room. I had a busy timetable and spent most of my time in uni anyway. I prefered working there because there was less distractions. I used specialised computer programmes that were only available within the department. So there's a whole host of reasons for you why your list would have been useless to me. I couldn't afford that stuff as a student anyway.

There are a lot of students who your list would not be relevant to and the result is it is not a useful list because you can only asses its personal relevance by whether you already know you could use that stuff.

I think a printer and computer is relevant to 99% of students (if not most of the population of the UK nowadays)

And I'm forever going on about not buying Acer products - nobody tends to listen though, they just see the spec, the price and think that its wonderful.
