itunes - Track naming
Options

I import a lot of music from discs into my itunes, so I can listen to on my ipod. However I seem to have to manually type in the name of the song/artist and relevent info. I have tried the itunes option to 'get track names' but it comes up with a message saying the it cannot get names for songs not imported using itunes.
So I am a bit stuck really - anyone got any ideas.
(at the moment I got into amazon and copy and paste the relevent info - but I much rather the info can be downloaded as and when I copy the tracks into itunes??)
Thanks

Most players should look up the cd and fill in the details. Windows media player shoukld do it but make sure you save as mp3 & not wma. Winamp will also do it. Real player. itunes is pain in backside at the best of timesNudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

Are you burning the disks with itunes or another program?
If you are connected to the internet then itunes should auto look up the names when you burn (unless the disks are not very popular?)
If not the use windows media play and set output to mp3 as above (itunes cannot play wma).
I take it you are burning retail disks and not copies/home made compilations>?0 -
I use a program called tag & rename. After ripping the disc you can use this to modify individual tracks, the album or multiple albums o a wide range of inputs. If connected to the net, you select an album folder and tell it to get the tag names, insert the band and/or album name and it will return a number of potential albums. Select the one you want and it can fill in all the details, add the album cover art and any reviews/comments on the album. Can then rename the filenames based on the tag info.0

In the main, I am using retail disks.
However, I do have some 'homemade' compilations - it seems to stuggle to name these?0 -

if the info is already on the disc such as track title , song name then it will rip it with the song.
but if the tracks are just track 1. track 2 etc etc then there's no info to rip and thus you have to manually name the tracks.0 -
Most audio cd's will have the tracks as track1.wav, track2.wav. The cd's you get from the shop can contain certain information which is unique to the cd and it's this unique key which can be used to search the net to get the song names and tags during the rip.
When you rip your compilations you'll have to manually enter all the info you can as none of the online databases will have any clue.0 -
The key to it is you have to be connected to the internet (as mentioned earlier).
I have imported thousands of tracks and CDs using iTunes and only a couple aren't recognised properly so make sure you are online first !0 -
You will not be-able to get track names for the compilations when you rip the cd as the only the software can do this is by matching album length/no. tracks/ track length etc... for an album in it's database.
As somebody else mentioned you may be able to get an aftermarket piece of software to find the names after ripping but you may be out of luck here i'm afraid!0 -
Dodgy discs are your problem. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
oh yeah of course Friv .. I was assuming the OP was using the original discs ... but if they're mp3 discs then you're doomed ... oh well I reckon if that's the reason they don't work then you should have to type 'em all out ! Taking money out of my pocket grumble grumble hehe ..0
