TomTom map update fail

I've just purchased a map update from TomTom, only to be told after giving the model details on purchase and then paying for the advised update that there isn't enough space on my device for the download. I've followed instructions and bought a new memory card but still getting the same message. Despite paring the applications down there is still not enough space for the map.

I've investigated on the TomTom forums and it seems that this is a common problem and customers are demanding a refund, unsuccessfully. I find it unacceptable that the company take the trouble to ask for details of the model then take money for something that is unusable.

I shall be ringing customer services tomorrow again to ask for a refund but I'm not holding out much hope.

2 days before a trip to Europe, it's not ideal.
you can't take it with you...

You could make a detour and visit Tom Tom HQ in Amsterdam to complain ....................., if you had the map. :j

I've had a similar problem updating a XXL with full European maps, which is how it's advertised/sold. The device has a 2Gb internal memory only which is too small for the maps, application, voices etc.! A bit naughty of TomTom, I think.
The only way to make room was to remove all the voices except a couple of the U.K English versions! In fact, they advised to load one voice initially. I spent hours, mostly waiting to speak to a person, on the 'phone to their more than useless Tech. Support trying to sort the thing.
It looks as though you've tried that without success.
How long have you had it? If new and depending on how bought could you return using DSRs?
It would appear your's, mine and many others are definitely not fit for purpose which could be another way of getting rid?

We all make mistakes and sometimes a little humour helps ease the pain:beer:
    Ignore the previous idiot.
Newer maps are more detailed and have much more information. As clearly stated on the Tom Tom site these may not fit all sat navs.

As OP said this issue has been discussed on many forums. One should research before buying. I purchased a Tom Tom with an SD card to facilitate future upgrades.

You are the idiot, expecting this to fit on 2Gb memory. :j

With my XXL, although I have the full 2.5GB "Europe" maps, when I go to update, I select them then click on update/whatever and it then goes to a screen that tells me to download one of four partial maps depending on what countries I want on it at the time.
