Why am I in debit with British Gas?
Last month I called them to ask why I was in debit with my gas account and in credit with my electric. They said it's because I use more gas than I do electric which doesn't seem right to me as I only have radiators on for a couple of hours morning and night and my fire on rarely. I have tv on most of the time and pc too...
In the end came to an agreement to higher my gas to 64.00 and lower my electric to 15.00 which works out the same as what I used to pay before (used to pay £45 gas and £34 elec) and then would then wipe my gas debit back to £0 which works out the same as what I used to pay before. Someone came to read gas meter last week and made a payment of 64.00 at the end of May. But upon checking my statement online I am still in debit my £150 :S
I live in a 2 bed terraced house, with my partner and 2 year old and I am confused!

Gas usage is very seasonal as it is primarily used for heating. As such, in terms of kWh used, you will use much more than electricity if you don't have any electric heating.
It sounds like BG have adjusted the direct debit amount to something that should cover your annual usage. They're probably hoping to clear the debt over time as well. In summer (if we ever get one!), your gas usage should be considerably less than the amount you are paying for, so you should start to get ahead and hopefully build up a bit of credit before next winter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Does it make any difference if I pay by payment card?0

If you mean to clear the balance, it won't be a problem.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0

Well I will carry on paying my monthly gas and electric, if that's what you mean? Until my gas account returns to a credit balance0
