What's the best way of insuring against valuable theft(laptop, phone, camera) abroad?

Hi guys, I'm heading to Asia for 5+ months and have been researching insurance plans. A lot of them only cover up to £200-300 per valuable item.
I've also noticed in the small print a lot of these insurers don't cover theft, which I am most concerned about.
anyone recommend an insurer that covers theft abroad?
or a way of covering my valuables separately? (perhaps a good home insurance plan?)

I considered this. My laptop is worth £800 but thinking it will be cheaper/easier just to insure it separately than pay £130+ for another one? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Do you really want to lug a £800 laptop around. Are you going to leave it in hotel rooms when they all say they are not responsible.0 -
How about a netbook or a tablet thingy? much lighter as well. It's not always good to be seen with lots of valuable stuff.0

Keep taking the tablets0

I certainly wouldn't take an £800 laptop to Asia for 5 months especially if you are staying in small guesthouses. Bob has right idea Buy a cheap netbook. Would be cheaper than paying insurance for your laptop. if it goes missing from an hotel room they will not be one bit interested in helping you.0

Have stayed in probably 250+ guesthouses/homestays across Asia.
Forgot a Rolex in one, left my laptop/Ipad/DSLR in most and never had a problem.
Be careful and trust your instincts, but don't let it take over your holiday.0 -
