Contents insurance & laptop insurance, help needed

hi
need to get contents insurance done asap, was with a company called letting agent solutions which has merged into another (maras), the new policy is lacking compared to old one and rather confusing. policy wording and exclusions leave me feeling like i dont want to deal with this company.

comparison sites are asking question about building i cant answer.

need advice on essential things i need in contents cover.
the ones that come to mind are accidental damage cover for landlords fittings and fixtures.
And laptop for outdoor and indoor use.
new company dont even cover laptop for home theft in standard policy! shocking.

so just want good allround contents insurance for around £5000 worth of cover for my home belongings, and need laptop insurance

if anything should happen in rental place, id like to claim from insurer, so as to protect my deposit with LL.

if anyone can recommend a good laptop insurer ? might be cheaper to go with 2 diff insurers. ..

rather than laptop, if you can get a general outdoor policy for personal belongings, eg laptop, mobile, ipod, cash, etc). ?

thankyou

My laptop has always been included in my household contents insurance via accidental damage.

And again under 'iitems away from the home'

    Maybe you are over thinking.

Try the AA on the phone or on line.

Insurance companies are very wary of covering expensive items such as a laptop or camera as these become obsolete very quickly and there have been instances where the item has been deliberately dropped in order to claim on the insurance for a new one.

Some insurance companies have quite low article limits too, except for specified items.

We have buildings and contents cover with RIAS (over 50s only) who used AXA for this particular policy. The contents part of the policy is "new for old" on most items, the individual item limit is £1500 except for additional specified higher value ones.

Looks like you will have to read quite a few policy booklets in order to find an insurance company that meet your needs, it's all in the wording!
