Poss credit card - poor credit from 3 yrs ago???

Evening all,

No doubt there has been many posts along these lines so I apologise in advance!(I did do a search). I'm currrently in the process of building my credit rating back up and for the last 3 years I've have paid everything on time and even taken cards with Vanquis and Cap1 just to improve. I had a default put on my file just over 3 years ago(irresponsible student) and am aware that this will remain for 6 years. When checking my credit rating on checkmyfile, my score is still low. Basically, I was wanting to hear from anyone who knows companys who look at the last 3 years or so only? Is there such a thing or am I likely to struggle for the next 3 years? Any help at all would be really useful.
Thanks

is the default marked as satisfied ?
  • Have you tried your own bank to see what they can offer?
  • yes it was satisfied 3 years ago
  • have yet to try my own bank as I assumed they would use the same credit score etc? Although they are more than happy to offer me an overdraft in excess of £3000! thanks for the quick replies!
  • I had heard to go for a barclaycard? would anyone reccommend this?

I had a default some years ago (due to my ex-wife) Barclaycard did give me a Barclaycard Initial card with a £400 limit, as did Crapital One, when the default came off my file I got better cards with much much better APR's.

You could also give CitiBank a try as well...........but DO NOT try for them all in one go or you will be in deep do do's with too many searches on your file, so spread the applications over a period of months, and keep paying all your debts on time and avoid at all costs going over any limits that you may have.
Aiming to be debt free....but still off target
