    that's nice to know, but is of little help to someone wishing to play a legacy format like reel to reel....

    I know what you mean about old Ampex tapes. Had that problem on an Instrumentation machine some years ago. A lot of cleaning was required! I expect that there will be lots of dropouts on playback of my old tapes irrespective of make, now though.
