I have CD and DVD recorders, an iPod, a DAT recorder and two Minidisc recorders!
All of them are smaller, easier to use, offer excellent if not better recording quality and whatever is recorded can be accessed randomly and instantly on all except the DAT.
that's nice to know, but is of little help to someone wishing to play a legacy format like reel to reel....0 -
googler wrote "If you have a mix of half and quarter track you'll need access to two machines", ideally true but I'd accept just using a quarter track machine - doubt if I'll notice the noise increase with all the other 'elderly quality problems'!
I know what you mean about old Ampex tapes. Had that problem on an Instrumentation machine some years ago. A lot of cleaning was required! I expect that there will be lots of dropouts on playback of my old tapes irrespective of make, now though.0
