Banking. On-line security

Having read the security part of the Halifax on-line website I'm still not sure what they consider adequate.

I use Microsoft Essentials on the basis that it's free but mainly because one assumes MS knows what it's doing.

What other programmes do forum members use for their on-line banking security?

Does anyone know if banks have used alleged insecurity of a customers PC to refuse to compensate them when their accounts/savings have been stolen?

I've never heard of this happening. Frankly any bank criticising you for using Microsoft Security Essentials is likely to have complaints upheld against it by the Financial Services Ombudsman. I'm sure there are people using online banking without any security software whatsoever

The issue might be if you didnt have any security, not sure how a bank would check as they dont send out anyone to check.

Trusteer Rapport should be the first thing you install. Stops keylogging etc

Yup, its the one the banks push. However, I had to uninstall on mine as it was sapping 30% of the CPU regardless of what app I had open (even when no browser).
