I've had my Capital One Progress card since November and still have a £200 limit. I've alway's payed back the full ammount each month, and never ran up a high balance on it. I'm 19 and never been in debt, so I'm not sure why they can't raise it slightly. I'm not looking for something stupit like a £7,000 limit or anything, but I'm sure I could get a higher limit from Vanquis or Granite.
Can you call them and ask why you havn't had an increase, as they say that they check accounts regulalry to see who is eligible for increase's.

Nope, it says on their website not to do exactly that.
They will review your account and upgrade the amount when they want.
It usually helps to spend near the limit, say £150 of your £200, as this is shows you use your limit and are more likely to use an increase as opposed to spending £50 a month.SwagBucks Challenge: 402/849

Capital progress is a credit card as you know for high risk customers so credit limit increases for this card isint going to happen as frequent as a mainstream card.0

I am having the same problem with Capital One (different card I believe), when I set up the account I was advised it would be checked 6 monthly and thought I would get some form of communication of this check regardless of whether or not they upped my limit.
I have been spending between about £170-£200 over the past 3 months on online purchases in the hope that they may extend it. I will try and remember to post back here if I hear anything.0 -
As pointed out above, Capital One do state on their website that they don't generally accept customer requests for credit limit increases - they decide themselves, as and when.0

You have no hope as I've had the Capital One card for 2 years, limit 400, each month the balance is always about 370 and always make more than the minimum payment. hold other cards etc never missed a payment on anything in 3 years
the limit has never budgedI have worked at HSBC Bank in various departments both customer facing and process-related for six years. However, any advice given is my own.0 -
Why are you guys telling him he cannot phone up? you CAN Phone up and have it reviewed their and then for an increase.
There is a topic about it on here somewhere. I also tried and was told i needed to wait but GF tried and they trebled the limit whilst she was on the phone.0 -
Cap One like all credit card companies are a law unto themselves. They will only issue a limit increase when they are ready, or the computer says YES.
I have their Classic card, started in August 2011 with a £200 limit. For the first 4 or 5 months I only spent between £40 - £80 a month. Always paying in full and usually on the same day the online statement is produced. No sign of an increase.
From then on I started spending more, typically between £120 -£160 a month, again paying in full as soon as the statement was produced. By month 9 from opening the account I was given an increase to £800.
Ordinarily I would have thought that maybe the increased use of the card had prompted the increase. However just to baffle me even more, I applied for their Progress card only to get rejected, I apparently didn't meet their lending criteria, which is fine, their right to reject me. However within a couple of days of being rejected I received the limit increase letter for the Classic card. So although I didn't meet the criteria for the Progress card, I now met the criteria for going from £200 - £800 on the Classic card.
So I can only guess that you can't second guess their strategy on increasing peoples limits. Only to say they will do what they will do and it comes down to that and the computer saying YES!0 -
This is interesting, most people on here say they start with a £200 limit. I applied on the 1st June, been accepted and my starting limit is £1000. I have 2 satisfied defaults 2 years ago but been rebuilding through catalogues. I think what they look for is your recent credit history, I've never missed a payment in 2 years.0

Capital one are one mysterious bunch.
You have no hope requesting an increase using online secure message service as you will get back a standard reply from them.
If you called them, I'd imagine you call will be transferred to Indian call centers who can't do much.
If it helps, I kept progress card for 18 months, started off with £200 and then closed it off at same limit. Applied for their cashback card a month later and was given £3,000.
So you can start looking at other credit cards from Creation after keeping cap1 for a year or so rather than applying for their next useless progress card.0
