YOU could have put his name forward, his wife could have, anybody could have...

one of my colleagues is carrying it because his sister put his name forward, with a reason why he should be a torchbearer and he got picked.

But, as has been said before, Barry as a well-known sportsperson should not have had to do that - Wayne McCullough and that other boxer (who I had never heard of!) who exchanged the flame at the border didn't have to, did they?

I notice this thread was posted in the Moneysavers Arms, the purpose built home for non consumer or money related threads. It really takes those from GB to show how to use a forum properly!

Surely I read somewhere that the Norn Iron forum had a special dispensation to discuss slightly off-topic issues peculiar to this part of the world?

Did you see that the thread about Michaela was removed by the moderators, surely that tells you something. (Off topic threads to be posted in The Moneysavers Arms)

I have stated clearly on this board before, we are a unique community here, both in Northern Ireland and on this board. If someone asks a question which is Northern Ireland related, albeit not necessarily money related, the post stays here in the meantime before it gets moved to another board. That way the OP gets maximum replies.

If anyone who uses these boards, disagrees with the way something has been handled or managed, by myself or any other BG for that matter, please by all means contact !!!!!! for advice.

I hope sincerely that we will now have an end to these types of comments as I feel it's disheartening to see them popping up on the board now after it has been in existence for the past (almost) 6 years.

    Kind Regards

To be fair, Michael Carruth did win an Olympic gold medal in 1992, so he was entitled to carry the torch :)

That's fair enough, he was certainly entitled to be there.

I was just making the point that Barry, who is as well (or better) known, had just as much right to be invited without having to apply.

He was born in Eire, fought for Eire in the 1980 Olympic Games so unless the Irish were to ask him to carry it on the crazy trip of the torch to Dublin & back then he would have no right as such..... That would be like asking one of the Klitschko bros to carry it...
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!
