Olympic Torch Disgrace

No it was actually the Olympic Council of Ireland who let him down. Jedward and Paul McGrath were considered more suitable choices as torchbearers.0

Pot calling the kettle black!Problem is that Barry is 'old hat'....

There was a post on another thread about the imaginary Olympic "Deliverance Team" as portrayed by the spoof TV show "Twenty Twelve" discussing something like this.

YOU could have put his name forward, his wife could have, anybody could have...Yes, he was on the Nolan Show last night and stated he had not been asked. He sounded genuinely upset that he had been snubbed/ignored.
one of my colleagues is carrying it because his sister put his name forward, with a reason why he should be a torchbearer and he got picked.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

My question is, why do they have to have a torch for each person - 8000 torches at about £250 a pop if I remember correctly (at least, that's what the runners are being asked to pay). OK, so the runners can buy them if they want, but if not many buy them that's a lot of money wasted on them!!
**just looked them up and spotted a quote of c.£500 a pop to make, so even if they sell them all they will still cost a lot.0 -

I notice this thread was posted in the Moneysavers Arms, the purpose built home for non consumer or money related threads. It really takes those from GB to show how to use a forum properly!0 -
The biggest disgrace is that 'Jedward' carried the torch.
I thought that torchbearers were chosen for their 'contribution to society'0
