Camping - recommend me some sites please!

With Spring and Easter fast approaching I'm getting itchy feet and want to get the tent and sleeping bags out from under the bed. I never know where to go though!

I'm in Manchester, so would want a site within a couple of hours drive. Please feel free to hijack this thread though, recommend sites all over the country!

Give me some idea of the area, the type of site (loads of caravans is a big no-no for me), costs, etc.

I'll start off by recommending a place...

Conder Farm, Dent, nr Sedbergh, Cumbria.

Lovely area, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, for walking or a trip on the Settle - Carlisle railway. A couple of very good pubs in the village, a local shop and a post office. We went for picnics on the Dales, country drives, visited the Wensleydale cheese factory, drank lots of beer - Dent has its own brewery with some great real ales!

The site was nice, but basic. It was very quiet when we went, but I'd imagine there would be a queue for the showers if busy.

As far as I can remember it was £4 per person per night - bargain! And you could get for a cooked breakfast at the farm house.

(There were other sites in the village, all looked nice enough. Definitely worth a visit)

I always recommend https://www.coftonholidays.co.uk Been there a few times now, & it's lovely. My biggest phobia when camping is the shower/toilet blocks ! But rest assured, each time we've been there, they are lovely & clean! No need to pack your parazone wipes (well maybe just a few!) LOL !
:D I am in the future you know...
...9 hours ahead to be exact !:D

That looks too busy for us! There's just me and the girlfriend and we're after a field with a clean toilet block, not too many kids running about the place or caravans cluttering up the site :p

    Hi

As Louisa Jane said have a look at ukcampsite.co.uk

There are the message boards but also a campsite search facility. Type in the name of a town and it'll tell you all the campsites near by. Also users of the ukcampsite website post reviews against campsites they've used to give feedback on good and bad sites.

I like the National Trust site at Langdale but you can't book and so need to be there early.

    Enjoy your camping trip.
