"its down to the user of an electric mop pressurising the head too much and literally putting swirls into the paint or lacquer"

i dont really agree with this statement. your in the wrong job if you are making swirls with a polisher. buffer marks maybe if youre incompetent, but not swirl marks.

our definitions might differ but the marks get there from mechanical means
im not a full time valeter but we do have a paintshop next door and i do see the prep men struggle with swirls either on fresh paint or trying to bring car to customer satisfaction levels(ie nice clean and shiny ):)

fair point. i know what you mean.
i had the side of my car painted and there were buffer marks and holograms in the paint in direct sunlight.
i had to polish them out myself.

You offer an MSE discount, Allan? ;)

I've bookmarked your link, wife has an MR2 roadster that could benefit with some TLC paintwise.

    isn't a problem

please scroll through the pictures an you'll see what I mean ( I know there's a lot of pictures but believe me it is incredible what these guys do )

Is it a grey car or black ? just look at picture 3

It's not just a "buffing wheel" it's the compound , polish wax etc. , type of pad , speed of the rotary polisher and technique used

You need to read the website to realise it's not just a £25 haulfrauds type polisher and a bit of turtle wax that gets that result
