You can't just register a marriage, you need to give notice, you need a ceremony even if it takes a few moments and you need two witnesses.

Details here on the government website:

Contact your local registry office they'll be able to tell you. You have to make an appointment to give notice at the registry office and this costs I think about £70, then you have the civil ceremony with the registrar and 2 witnesses (cost is about £50 for the registrars fees plus whatever they charge for room hire etc). The ceremony can be as quick as 10 minutes. We still had time for a quick bottle of champagne in our lunch hour after ours!

I have to say, I find it slightly odd you'd just want to "register" a marriage without a celebration!

Hope you find time to enjoy your special day.

Well there are different ways of celebrating - some might thing an intimate personal occassion shared between 2 people is a far more appropriate way to celebrate a marriage than laying on mass catering for 100 relatives and stressing about if the napkins match the bridesmaids knickers. Or of course people may have their own ways of celebrating thier marriage in a faith thats not legally recognised in this country that mean they have to have another meaningless to them ceremony to legitimise the commitment them have already made to each other, thier god and thier community....

well we do celebrate it but this is more like a celebration at home where families are invited and have a good time together

i rather to have this than spending 10-15k for foods and .... where that can be spent to heal other problems in the life and have a good holiday somewhere in the world

    thanks for all advices

Yeah, definitely. Just find your local registry office (the site I linked to shows you how to do this) and take it from there. It will cost you a few quid but shouldn't be too bad.

    Enjoy your party at home!
