Withdrawing Cash in Europe

Can anyone clarify please, I have read that the cheapest way to draw cash (e.g. avoid loading's and charges etc) for use in European countries seems to be by using a credit card-I had always thought that credits cards charged interest immediately for cash withdrawals?
Also if I pre-loaded a credit card with cash would this solve the problem and/or are the banks likely to be unhappy about a credit card being used in this way.
I currently bank with Nationwide.

1) Debit cards issued by N&P or Metro bank - no withdrawal fee & 0% commission

2) Sainsbury's Gold credit card - no withdrawal fee & 0% commission BUT £5 per month charge

3) Halifax clarity credit card - no withdrawal fee & 0% commission BUT interest is charged from the day cash withdrawal is made until paid off full.

Pre-loading credit card is against T&Cs.

You load it up before you go, and then just withdraw when needed. No fees and good rates of conversion.

Caxton FM Europe card for me. Pre-paid visa.

No fees on purchases or ATM withdrawals.

Just load the card up before you go. And if you find yourself running short you can top up on their website from your bank account in an internet cafe or wifi hotspot etc.
