Why do we keep comparing flying to driving, they are totally different!! In the air, you don't have half as much traffic as you do on the roads. The chances of a small child stepping out in front of you are a bit remote, and a wrong move isn't likely to cause a 20 vehicle pile up!! That's not to say that you don't need to be skilled to pilot an aircraft, but the dangers and environment are totally different.

If continuous testing saves lives then it has to be worth it, no matter if it costs more money or is an inconveniance. You might find that it would also create more jobs too, for people of all ages!!

Fortunately my neighbour decided to give up driving herself when she found herself driving round a roundabout the wrong way aged 72

She signed up to drive ambulances during the war.

Peter, I am not picking on the older generation as I said in an earlier reply, I think everyone should be retested every so often, and if that costs more money then make the motorist pay for the privelidge of keeping their license. For most people this shouldn't be a problem, but for those that only just managed to pass their driving test, and haven't improved much since then, then we might manage to make the roads safer for everyone and I for one can't put a price on that.
