Car insurance company refusal to pay - Please help

Just seeking a bit of help for a friend. He has recently had his car stolen by thieves who entered his house and took his keys form inside while he was in another room.

The insurance company has said he is not covered due to his house door not being locked! Is this right, I would have thought that if he had left his keys in the car then he would not be covered, but someody actualy entered his house withouth him knowing, and stole the keys from inside his house.

Any help on this matter would be much appreciated, as he needs the car for his parent who is extremely ill.

Regards

Which Insurers is he with ? Helpful, so people can view the policy wording online to see what the policy says.

Have the Insurers actually said what policy term they are relying on to decline the claim. If not, he should ask them to confirm their decision in writing and they should explain what policy term they are using to decline the claim.

Your friend should get a complaint into his Insurers now. If after 8 weeks the complaint is not settled in your friends favour, then he can proceed to the FOS.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
