Hi
Not sure whether to put this in Motoring or in DIY, hopefully the mods will move it in to the correct place.
I am in the process of changing my Transmission Fluid on my Honda Civic 2004, i have a Haynes Manual which seem to suggest the filler plug is as pictured http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/darkcloudi/IMG_0399.jpg
Where as the second picture on this website shows it somewhere else http://www.wikiauto.com/Honda-Civic-1996-2000-Manual-Transmission-Fluid-Change.ashx
Was hoping someone may able to clarify and tell me which is the correct filler hole although the one from the website is for an older Civic the holes depicted appear to be there for a 2004 model, so think the filler hole is the one shown in the website and the Haynes manual may be incorrect.
Thanks in advance for any repsonses
Regards

I've done this on a 04 plate 2.0S (type R same), should be little if any difference if yours is a 1.6 or Diesel, and assume its manual.
Drain plug is on the offside just in front of the drive shaft, filler plug is about 6" above and slightly in front of the drain plug, its quite obvious.
Best to jack up level but remove the offside front wheel, and the plastic splash shield for ease of access.
Gearbox takes 1.7 litres of oil, but its a bit of a juggle to get the filler pipe in and get the oil back in...suggest you find a 2 ft length of flexible hose to fit the gear oil bottle and fill from above the engine, fill to level plug so car must be level.
A very useful forum is http://civictype-r.co.uk full of good multi photo'd service jobs.
Some things will be different obviously, but a mine of info.0 -

Thanks for your response.
Sounds like my first link is the correct filler plug as shown in the Haynes manual. Just to confirm i'm assuming you used a 1\2 inch square socket extension to remove the plug? Not a 17mm wrench as shown in my second link. Making sure we're talking about the same bolt as this is what confused meThanks again.
Got a flexible tube with a funnel to fill the transmission fluid back up.0 -
Thought I give an update on my progress in changing the transmission fluid in case someone else gets in to the same difficulties as me.
My main concern as shown from the original thread was wherethe filler hole is located, as there was discrepancies between the wiki page http://www.wikiauto.com/Honda-Civic-1996-2000-Manual-Transmission-Fluid-Change.ashxand the Haynes manual. However both theHaynes manual and the way shown on the wiki is correct.
What I found was the wiki way filled up a litre of newtransmission fluid whereas this other hole as pictured http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/darkcloudi/IMG_0402.jpgand shown in the Haynes manual allowed me to put another litre of transmissionfluid in, as it started leaking from the first hole after having a litre in it.Could have started leaking due to the car being jacked up at an angle but sinceI was advised the car required around 2 litres I decided to try thisalternative hole and managed to get close to 2 litres of new transmission fluidinto the car.
With the Haynes method you also need to remove the splashguard to get access to the alternative filler hole: http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/darkcloudi/IMG_0401.jpgAlso was a little easier to get a pipe in to do the filling http://s609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/darkcloudi/although there is a gear wheel in the way but this never caused muchdifficulties when I tried this method
The new fluid was this colour http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/darkcloudi/IMG_0404.jpg(should have taken a photo when it was in the bottle) and old transmissionfluid http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/darkcloudi/IMG_0405.jpg so it isrecommended you should try changing this fluid based on your car serviceschedule. I changed the fluid at 70,000 miles.
Job was a success. Would have taken more pics but then therain was pouring and wanted to get the job completed as quick as possible, theinstructions on the wiki are good so that can be followed plus if you want tofill new fluid this alternative hole can be used. Hope this helps someone0
